My First Love; My First Heartbreak.

by

A clueless girl, who believed her dad was on vacation. Waiting for boxes of gifts mailed to her from him. Barbies. Dream Houses. Snacks. A box filled with toys and goodies just for her. The one thing she wanted wasn't there though -- her father. In fact, he was rarely ever there, but that never bothered this six year old. Letters saying, "I love you," already proved enough, right?

. . . Wrong. Two years later, she saw her mother crying often. Whispering stories to strangers, loved ones, and friends, but the little girl never understood why.

Her family had a family meeting one day. She was excited because rarely do they ever have dinner together and talk like what she sees on television. . . The girl sits down at the table, but no one looked at her. Her Older Brother. Sister. Mother. All looking away in despair. She didn't know any better and happily asked with the biggest smile, "What's going on?"

Almost ten years later and she still remembers,
"Your dad has a new family."

She just stopped and stared with a confused look. Why would her dad have a new family? Mom and dad are still married. Dad still gives the little girl gifts and "I love you"s. That makes no sense. . .
"He went to Vietnam and has a new daughter. . .
A new family and. . .
He doesn't want to see us anymore."
She didn't understand then, and still doesn't now. Why would he leave us? How can he do that to us?
Silence filled the room as the little girl slowly realized that she had been
Replaced.
